Valerian has a long history of use as a sedative and sleep aid. Valerian is arguably the strongest western herbal central nervous system sedative. Valerian will quiet a busy mind. It can promote sleep for those who cannot fall asleep and helps those who wake up in the middle of the night. Repeat the doses as needed within a night to facilitate sleep. The liquid is significantly faster in action compared to a pill which must be digested before it can be absorbed. It can help calm one down when going through difficult emotional and mental times or when in therapy and in turmoil. If taken during the day, Valerian can make one feel tired, sedate or a little out of it. This can be controlled by altering the dosage.
Valerian is the strongest western herbal painkiller. It will reduce pain in the musculoskeletal system (i.e. muscle and joint pain from injury, accidents, work outs, surgeries). Valarian may be enough to control pain after relatively mild surgeries or dental procedures. It is also a smooth muscle relaxer for pain from menstrual cramps, digestive cramps, gall bladder and kidney stones. Valerian will not remove all pain like a pharmaceutical pain killer will instead, reduce the percent of pain recognition by 10-50%. Some sensation of discomfort will remind the person that the body has limits because it is still healing a problem, but the level of pain reduction will allow one to relax enough and heal more effectively. The pharmaceutical removing all the pain may give a false notion that one can overexert themselves and re-injure their original problem.
Valerian Rootwill help calm hyperactivity in adults and children. If ones becomes too fatigued by its use, cut back on the dose. One can increase dose appropriate to the stressful situation at hand.
